Mena Mark Hanna is Dean of the Barenboim-Said Akademie, where he lectures in musicology. Prior to his position at the Barenboim-Said Akademie, Hanna was Assistant Artistic Director of Houston Grand Opera and a Visiting Scholar at the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University. Hanna is a contributing blogger for The Huffington Post and has lectured at Oxford University, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Rice University, and New York University, in addition to Lincoln Center, New York and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. His monograph on Coptic Chant is a forthcoming publication from the Gingko Library. Currently, Dr. Hanna is working on a project regarding Orientalist influences on Classical Music in the Middle East. Hanna holds a DPhil from Oxford University, where he was a Marshall Scholar.
